The usual OEM guidance is to keep water below the centreline of the carrier rollers — in practice, below the top of the track frame — so the swing bearing and travel motors stay dry. The undercarriage itself tolerates water, but there are caveats. Working in water flushes lubrication conditions differently: fine silt in suspension is highly abrasive, and repeated hot-cold cycling can draw water past roller and idler seals as components cool. After sustained water work, inspect rollers and idlers for oil weep, check the travel gearbox oil for emulsification, and wash out packed silt. If a machine has been submerged deeper than intended, treat it as a service event, not routine operation.
