Rubber Pads

bolt-on pads · chain-on pads · clip-on pads · road pads

Rubber pads let a steel-tracked machine work on asphalt, concrete and finished surfaces without damage. Each VANROCK rubber pad is individually vulcanised onto a metal core and is matched to the chain by its link pitch.

Four mounting systems cover every configuration: bolt-on pads screwed through the track shoe, chain-on pads mounted directly on the chain (standard and HD VGRIP), clip-on pads clamped around the fitted shoe, and road pads in rubber or polyurethane. Bolt-on and chain-on pads are supplied with bolts and nuts.

Technical guide

01

Function & construction

Rubber pads are an alternative to bare steel shoes wherever the surface must be protected — asphalt, concrete, paving and finished floors. Each pad is individually vulcanised onto a metal core: the core carries the mounting and transfers the load, the rubber body forms the contact surface.

Pads are matched to the track by the link pitch of the chain (90–216 mm in the VANROCK programme) and to the machine by pad length. The mounting system — bolt-on, chain-on, clip-on or road pad — depends on how the machine is configured and how often the pads need to come off.

02

Choosing the mounting system

  • +Bolt-on pads are screwed through additional holes in the track shoe; pre-drilled shoes are available as a complete solution — a good balance of holding force and replaceability.
  • +Chain-on pads mount directly on the chain and replace the shoes entirely — the standard solution when the machine works mostly on sensitive surfaces.
  • +HD VGRIP chain-on pads add wear volume and a front extension that keeps sand, stones and gravel out of the undercarriage.
  • +Clip-on pads clamp around the existing shoe without drilling — fastest to fit and remove when the machine alternates between dirt and paved surfaces.
  • +Road pads in rubber or polyurethane suit machines that regularly travel on paved roads; polyurethane is poured directly onto the shoe and resists oils, petrol and grease.

03

Fit check before ordering

  • +Confirm the link pitch of your chain — the pad must match it exactly.
  • +For clip-on pads, measure the track shoe: profiles differ slightly between shoe manufacturers, and the pad must sit correctly between the grousers.
  • +Check pad length (L) against your current shoe width.
  • +Bolt-on and chain-on pads are supplied with bolts and nuts — no separate hardware order needed.

04 · Component_Knowledge

Operating & wear

+Avoid sharp pivot turns on abrasive surfaces — they tear rubber off the core edges first.
+Remove stones and debris trapped between pads; the VGRIP extension reduces ingress but does not replace cleaning.
+Replace pads before the metal core contacts the ground: an exposed core damages exactly the surfaces the pads are meant to protect.
+Torque bolt-on and chain-on hardware to specification and re-check after the first shifts of operation.
+Uneven wear across the pad width usually points to worn chain or roller components — inspect the undercarriage, not just the pads.

FAQ

Rubber Pads — common questions

Which rubber pad type fits my machine?+

The link pitch of your track chain determines the size; the mounting system determines the type. Chain-on pads mount directly on the chain, bolt-on pads screw through drilled track shoes, and clip-on pads clamp around the existing shoe. If you are unsure, send your machine model and a photo of the track — our team confirms the correct pad.

How do I measure for clip-on rubber pads?+

Clip-on pads clamp around the track shoe, so the shoe profile must match. Shoe profiles differ slightly between manufacturers — measure the shoe width and grouser spacing before ordering. Clip-on pads always fit in combination with VANROCK track shoes.

Are bolts and nuts included with rubber pads?+

Yes — bolt-on and chain-on rubber pads (including HD VGRIP) are supplied complete with bolts and nuts. Clip-on pads clamp mechanically and need no separate hardware.

What is the difference between rubber and polyurethane road pads?+

Rubber road pads offer more grip. Polyurethane road pads are cast directly onto the track shoe — extremely wear-resistant, suitable for heavy machinery and resistant to oils, petrol and grease.
