Only if the machine was designed for it. Many mini and midi excavators (roughly up to 8–10 tonnes) were engineered as dual-configuration machines, and for those a direct rubber track equivalent exists that fits the original sprocket, idler and rollers. Larger excavators generally cannot take rubber tracks — the loads exceed what a rubber track's steel cord can carry. If your machine isn't offered with a rubber option, the practical alternative is rubber pads mounted on the steel shoes (bolt-on, clip-on or chain-on), which give a rubber contact surface on any steel undercarriage.
