How do I figure out what sprocket I need for my excavator or dozer?
Expert Answer
Start by matching the sprocket to the machine model, track chain pitch, and drive system. For tracked excavators and dozers, the wrong pitch or tooth profile will not run correctly, even if the part looks similar. VANROCK supplies sprockets and segment sprockets for a wide range of undercarriage applications, and fitment should always be confirmed from the machine model, OEM reference, or an existing worn part.
The fastest way to identify the right sprocket is to check three things: • the machine brand and model • the number of teeth and whether it is a one-piece sprocket or a segment type • the track chain pitch and bolt pattern. If your old sprocket is worn, count the teeth and compare the mounting pattern, but do not rely on wear alone because hooked teeth can make an old part look smaller than it is. If you also replace the chain, match the new sprocket to the new chain pitch.
Typical symptoms of the wrong sprocket include poor chain engagement, accelerated chain wear, noise, and uneven drive performance. If you are unsure, send the model, serial number, and photos of the old sprocket and hub area to an appointed VANROCK dealer. We are an independent manufacturer, not affiliated with any OEM, and pricing is quoted on request through our dealer network.
