It is worth considering when the chain's internal wear (pitch elongation) is still low but bushing OD wear is at its limit, and when a press and skilled labour are available at reasonable cost. It is usually not worth it on sealed and lubricated chains — turning destroys the seals and the lubricated joint, giving up the chain's main advantage — or when pitch is already stretched, since the turn doesn't recover internal wear.
