What are track guards and do I need them?
Expert_Answer
Track guards (also called track guides or guiding guards) are steel plates bolted along the track frame that keep the chain aligned over the rollers. They stop the chain from snaking sideways, reduce the chance of throwing a track, and shield rollers from rocks and packed debris. Machines working on slopes, in demolition, forestry or rocky ground benefit most — that's where derailment risk is highest. On flat, clean earthmoving they are less critical, which is why some machines run only short front and rear segments rather than full-length guards. Guards themselves are wear parts: bent or badly worn guards can rub the chain and accelerate link wear, so inspect them whenever you check the undercarriage. VANROCK can quote track guards and related undercarriage hardware for many machine models through its dealer network — include your model and serial number with the request.
