How many kilograms of pebbles should be planned per m²?
Expert Answer
In general, allow about 70 to 100 kg per m² for a decorative pebble layer, depending on the particle size and the desired thickness. The larger the pebbles, the more kilograms are needed to cover the surface evenly.
As a practical guide, the most common ranges are: 8/16 mm or 10/16 mm at around 60 to 75 kg/m², 16/25 mm at around 70 to 80 kg/m², 25/40 mm at around 80 to 100 kg/m², and 40/60 mm at around 90 to 110 kg/m². For a quick calculation, multiply the area in m² by the desired thickness in meters to obtain the volume, then convert to kilograms according to the type of pebble.
• A thinner layer provides less coverage and will show the base material sooner.
• A thicker layer is visually more stable, but requires more material.
• The type of base, compaction, and the shape of the pebbles can change the actual consumption.
